012: Beer and Billards on a Birthday

I'm out at a new bar in the neighborhood: Pat's Tap (and Skee-Ball). They do like their palindromes: above the beer menu it reads, "Lager, sir, is regal." Yes, very good.

I'm taking the opportunity to sample a variety of beers.

  1. Divine Oculust (Belgian, Harriet Brewing, Minneapolis)
  2. Fulton Sweet Child o' Vine (IPA, Fulton Beer, Minneapolis)
  3. Lagunitas Pils (Czech pilsner, Lagunitas Brewing Co., Petaluma, CA)
One thing I know is that I don't care for hoppy beers. I'll drink them, I can enjoy them, but I like porters and stouts and dark ales. All the beers I've sampled tonight are great, though, and I tried to make notes as best I could of my impressions.

But I'm here to celebrate Carlos' birthday with him! I know a couple other people (the birthday focus is always preoccupied) and here I'm engaged in a game of pool with what turned out to be a shark, an affable young woman who worked at Sharpshooters for seven years. I'm holding my own and though I lost this game, we were both down to the eight ball so I'll consider that a victory of sorts.
